Opel has released advance details of its new compact SUV.

The new addition for GM's German marque will make its way to Australia once the brand established itself here.

The Mokka measures 4.28m and will seat five people and will be available in front wheel drive and all wheel drive options.

Two petrol variants include a 1.6-litre 85kW entry level or the sportier 1.4-litre turbo which gives 103kW of power and 200Nm of torque. A 1.7-litre CDTI turbo diesel will also be available, producing 93kW of power and 300Nm of torque.

Manual and automatic transmission will be available for the turbo and diesel variants.

Opel promises a plethora of driver assist functions, using front and rear camera and sensor technology.

Other features include stability controls and ergonomically designed and approved seating.

Opel CEO Karl-Friedrich Stracke said the Mokka is perfectly positioned to take advantage of the booming compact SUV market.

“The Opel Mokka takes its strengths from traditional, larger SUVs and fits them into a modern compact format,” says Mr Stracke.

“The Mokka extends Opel’s vehicle line and continues the momentum we’ve built up over the last few years with our strong product offensive.

“It also energises the new SUV B-segment that is predicted to grow considerably over the next years.”

The Mokka will be available internationally by the end of the year although Australian release details are still to be confirmed.
